My love of animals has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember. This began when I got my first pet (a guinea pig named Dolly) when I was 6 years old and only grew from there. Later in life this integrated with my fondness of the natural world and from there evolved my passion to protect it.
Hence me choosing to study 'Conservation Biology' at the University of Lincoln and I have also recently finished my MSc in 'Endangered Species Recovery and Conservation' at Nottingham Trent University. I've always known that academic credentials are not enough in the conservation industry and any experience I gain alongside it is invaluable. I therefore began this journey by volunteering with the RSPB last summer on a 2 week placement at Forsinard Flows which is right at the top of Scotland. I came back from this trip thoroughly inspired and eager to continue in my experiences in conservation.
Since then I have volunteered at 3 additional RSPB reserves, including Insh Marshes, Loch Garten and a long-term placement at Frampton Marsh. I also spent a summer on the Isle of Eigg volunteering for the Scottish Wildlife Trust. This experience, coupled with my academic background, resulted in me obtaining my first paid role in conservation as an Assistant Ranger on the Farne Islands during the summer of 2017.
Although I would be more than willing to work with a variety of wildlife species, I have honed in on seabird conservation as my ideal research area and this is an area that I aim to pursue a career in.
